A recent leak suggests that Samsung might release its upcoming iteration of One UI i.e. One UI 8.0 based on android 16 earlier than expected. This is being seen as Samsung trying to save its face since significant delay in release of stable One UI 7 to its current set of phones.
One UI 7 delays and company’s woes
Although it has been four months since the first stable release of Android 15 by Google for its Pixel devices, Samsung is yet to roll out the update to most of its phones with only recently launched S25 series being running on One UI 7.
With reports coming that company might still take a while to release stable One UI for its S24 and all previous year’s phone, with update possible arriving not until April or May. This is highly surprising for a company which had built strong reputation in offering timely upgrades for few years now, but Samsung may be able to turn the tide around with its upcoming iteration on One UI.
One UI 8 leaks
According to leak from Ice Universe, who claimed to have initial confirmation suggests that Samsung may be able to save face by releasing the One UI 8 update based on android 16 to its devices earlier than expected. While it’s too early to say whether the company will be able to pull this feat off or not following the massive delay in its release of One UI 7, It is still possible since Google itself is planning to roll Stable Android 16 early in Q2 2025.

Expectations
Even with the leaks suggesting early release you shouldn’t expect to get One UI 8 on your galaxy phone any time before June/July. With Google expected to release stable Android 16 to its Pixel phones on and around first week of June, Samsung will still take at least a few weeks to test the updates on its devices before rolling it out widely.
Galaxy S25 series being recent, will undoubtedly be the first to receive the update as well, with users with older galaxy phone will likely have to wait longer for the update to arrive in their phone unless Samsung does some miracle and pull off this feat. But before everything they still have a huge task to bring Stable One UI 7 to all eligible devices in its portfolio before Google brings Android 16 to its Pixel lineups.
