The current Google Pixel 9 series features a revamped design and three different Pro models and Strong emphasis on AI. It also represents the biggest deviation from the Pixel formulation that we have seen in the years.
Despite significant changes, Pixel 9 still retains multiple most criticized aspects of the Pixel series, with limited storage options and less competitive SoC being the highlights negatively. With all this in mind, what can we expect from its successor Pixel 10? Here’s what we know about the Pixel 10 series.
Google Pixel 10, Rumored specs and features.
It is still very early of the rumors, but there might be more than enough information to start building the picture.
AI has long been the focus of Google and the Pixels, and it will be no different for the Pixel 10 series as well. A Google Tensor G5 SoC with improved TPU. Also, a document from Google’s gChip division shows that this upgrade will allow Pixel 10 to have “Video Generative ML” features. The description read “Post-capture Generative AI-based intuitive video editing for the Photos app”, which sound like Pixel 10 will let user edit videos more easily in the Photos app using AI.
Further, we can expect several AI enabled photo editing features. One such is “Speak-to-Tweak”, a LLM-based editing tool. Another is “Sketch-to-Image”, which allow you to draw and AI will turn it into realistic image, similar to what we already have in Samsung’s Galaxy AI features. There is also a feature called “Magic Mirror”, but there isn’t much information regarding it.
Camera wise, we don’t know the lenses used in Pixel 10, but some camera details can be seen on the document. It is supposed that Tensor G5 will supports 4K 60FPS HDR video, in contrast to it previous gen which only supports 4K 30FPS HDR.
The SoC, Tensor G5
Google had essentially relied on Exynos and had used modified versions of Exynos SoC for its Tensor series in the past, leading to less than stellar performance and more backlashes from the audience. This time around, several rumors suggest that Google is switching to TSMC (which produces Snapdragon chips) to build and produce its T5 chipsets, which is good news.
In 2023, a report claimed that Google plans to develop a fully custom Tensor chips was delayed 2025 and that TSMC would produce it with 3nm process. In mid 2024, a leaker corroborated this rumor saying that Tensor chipsets from Pixel 10 series onwards will be produced by TSMC also asserting that T5 would use 3nm process.
A leak from October last year mentioned that Google has upgraded the CPU cluster for its T5 chipset, Giving the mid cluster five Cortex-A725 cores, with little cluster shrinking to two Cortex-A520 cores while keeping the same single Arm Cortex-X4 primary core as before. T5 is also expected to support ray tracing something completely new for Tensor chips. With GPU virtualization possible, it’s expected that T5 will allow accelerated graphics in virtual machine.
Pixel 10 series and Prices
It’s still too early for any rumors or leaks to talk about the prices for the Pixel 10 series. But the prices for new series should not deviate much from the current trend of Google prices for its Pixel phones. If we see the prices for Pixel phone in the last three years. The Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 pro sold $599 and $899 respectively, but for Pixel 8 series prices shot up by $100 for both of its phones. This year prices for Pixel 9 went up by further $100 to $799 but the Pro variants stayed at same prices at $999, while Pro XL variant sold for $1099.
We guess that the prices for the new Pixel 10 series to remain same this year but won’t be surprised if prices shot up by $100 as Google continues to angle its phones as Premium devices.
